World Radiography Day 2015

Ciao!

Happy World Radiography Day or #WRD2015 if we’re talking in the language of #SoMe! This is the day that every year we celebrate the discovery of x-radiation by Wilhelm Roentgen in 1895. Thanks Wil!

There’s no #TOTW this week as I just wanted to mark this special day – and my 3000th tweet – with a thank you for the support all my followers have given me since I started tweeting as radiographerben back in December 2014! Some of my friends and colleagues in the world of radiography manage to blog more frequently – and in most cases, more eloquently than I – but I would like to think that my short blog entries on a weekly basis are finding homes on the smartphones, tablets and computers of my followers! I would love to have more interaction with my followers and others who just happen across my tweets and blogs. Please if you do already follow me then feel free to contact me via my blog or my Twitter @radiographerben and if you’re just passing through, then drop me a line and say hi!

I like to use my tweets and blogs both for myself in terms of my continuing professional development, and for the education/delectation of any of you that might be interested in the things I talk about. There are many subjects that I am passionate about (dementia, FGM, end-of-life issues, patient care, gender identity, the use of social media to promote and educate, antibiotic resistance and mental health to name several!) and I enjoy sharing this passion via the medium of social media, in my case, Twitter, Facebook and WordPress. I feel extremely privileged and very lucky to have built up the following that I have and sincerely thank each and every one of you that take the time to look at what I publish.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Here’s to the next 3000 tweets!

Ben 🙂

PS Seeing as it is #WRD2015 and I and my fellow #SoMe enthusiasts are doing our best to inform our followers and those that are interested as to what we as radiographers do, here’s a link to my blog from back in January of this year on what I, as a diagnostic radiographer do on a typical 12hr shift:

#TOTW, #TTT, #14TW, #4PUF & #TOTM – What are they all?

Ciao!

I’ve been away the weekend having a much needed spot of r n’ r down in my former university town of Aberystwyth! So as well as being a day later than usual, this week i’m just showing what all my #‘s are about for all my new followers – of which i’ve been lucky enough to get 23 in the last week alone!

I have 3 regular weekly tweets and 2 monthly tweets:

#TOTW or ‘Tweet Of The Week’ – is when I look back on the week’s tweets/retweets and pick something from amongst them, thus giving it another chance to gain the light of publicity! Usually i’ll do this on a Sunday +/- a day!

#TTT or ‘Ted Talk Tuesday’ – is when I pick a TED Talk, usually related to the things I tweet about, although occasionally not. There are so may interesting TED Talks available, it’s often hard to pick one!

#14TW or ‘One For The Weekend’ – is where I post either a photo, video or a link to a story that I think is fun or interesting and NOT related to my usual tweeting content.

#TOTM or ‘Tweet Of The Month’ – is something i’ve only done a couple of times now – purely because i’ve forgotten to do it! It may or may not be one of the #TOTWs from the month. I may just pick one of the tweets that I feel got missed and I want to highlight the issue again.

#4PUF or ‘Four Previously Untweeted Favourites‘ – I favourite tweets all the time, whether as a form of ‘like’ or just to bookmark them to return to later. I don’t always end up retweeting them. On the last Sunday of each month I aim to pick a tweet that I have favourited from each week of the month and retweet it.

So there you have it! It’s not difficult to follow. I just wanted to give my new followers an idea of what the regular #‘s mean. Feedback and comments are always welcome! Welcome to my new followers, I hope you enjoy my tweets and or blogs, and thank you to my existing followers who continue to read, retweet and share my blog with others. I literally would not be doing this without all your support!

Simples!

#Hashtags explained!

Afternoon all!

I have been lucky enough to gain many new followers on Twitter in recent weeks  – and even a few more for this blog too, so thought I would just give a quick refresh for those who already follow, and explanation to those who are new, of what my regular #’s are!

They are as follows:

#TTTTed Talk Tuesday – As the name suggests, a Ted Talk video every Tuesday. Sometimes this will be on a medically-related topic, and sometimes it won’t! Just depends on what is around at the time!

#14TWOne For The Weekend – A tweet that has nothing to do with matters medical or radiographical whatsoever! It’s meant for fun and could be anything that is happening in the news at the minute, big state occasions etc, a music video, photos, or whatever takes my fancy on a Friday night/Saturday morning when I usually post!

#TOTWTweet of the Week – Usually a tweet that I feel deserves another airing, either because it’s a topic that I feel strongly about, or one that I feel didn’t get the exposure it deserved at the time of tweeting.

#4PUFFour Previously Untweeted Favourites – Each week I favourite many tweets without retweeting them. On the last Sunday of each month I now retweet one favourite from each week of the month.

#TOTMTweet of the Month – From the end of this month I will choose one tweet that is my favourite from the past month. This may or may not be one of my #TOTW’s.

Hope this helps you all understand what my regular “slots” are and to continue to enjoy them!

Thanks!

#TOTW (from: 16-01-15) From ‘Practical Procedures in Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery (2014)’

This week I’ve decided to keep it simple and post something that I, and many of my friends and colleagues found most amusing:

competent radiographer

Taken from ‘Practical Procedures in Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery’ 2nd edn. (2014) Editors: Peter V. Giannoudis and Hans-Cristoph Pape.

Suffice as to say, I wasn’t offended when it was shown it to me!

Also, as i’ve been lucky enough to gain almost an extra 30 followers since new year I thought i’d take this opportunity to let them (and those that may not know already!) what my regular tweets are:

#TOTW or ‘Tweet of the Week’ – this is when, as i’m doing in this post, I pick something from amongst all my tweets/retweets from the previous week and give it another chance to gain the light of publicity!

I’m always open to suggestions about new topics on which to tweet, so please feel free to get in touch and let me know. It would be great to hear from you!

I will now be taking a 2 week break from #TOTW whilst on on holiday. I’ll still be tweeting whilst i’m away, but I won’t be selecting a #TOTW for the next couple of weeks.

As Arnie once said, “I’ll be back!”

Farewell to 2014 and all who sailed in her!

Fear yeeh not! This will not be a blog-by-blog review of 2014! I just wanted to take the opportunity of these stats that have been produced by WordPress to say a few (hundred) words!

I have been blogging/Tweeting/Facebooking for a year now on matters medical, health-related, ethics, end-of-life care, dementia and much much more. I’ve been lucky enough to gain nearly 300 followers on Twitter and have 100+ Likes on Facebook and to date 11 followers for my blog!

Most of my followers and or people who have visited my Social media sites appear to come from the UK with the US and Canada not far behind. However, I have followers from other European countries as well as South Africa, India, Nepal, Thailand and Russia! So i’m happy to say that my appeal is truly global!

This is not enough though! I want to spread the word further around the globe in 2015! For those of who already follow or “like” me, then i’d like to say a very big thank you for all your interest and support throughout this year. I hope you’ll continue to support me into 2015. Please share any posts, retweet them, like them or do whatever you can to help me gain more support next year. I’d like to have 500+ followers on Twitter by the end of 2015 and maybe 200+ Likes on Facebook! I intend to expand the blogging side of “radiographerben” in 2015 also, such that I might get 50+ followers for my website!

As well as expanding the blog side of things, I would also like to add a bit to my Tweets. At present I have 3 regular “slots” in my social media week:

#TTT or ‘Ted Talk Tuesday‘ – This as it says, is published every Tuesday and is a link to a Ted Talk usually with a health-related theme, although this I may change for 2015 and include a wider variety of topics for. Suggestions welcome!

#14TW or ‘One for the Weekend‘ – Here, either on a Friday or Saturday I choose a story that is usually nothing to do with health matters at all! It can be a music video, a Formula 1 story, a general news story – anything that catches my eye and I think it would be good to share basically! Again, any suggestions for topics would be happily received!

#TOTW or ‘Tweet of the Week‘ – Pretty self-explanatory really. I pick a tweet from the previous week and write a little bit about it on my blog. This gives me the chance to say a bit more than I can in 140 characters! Either it will be the most popular tweet from the week or I might choose one that I feel was lost amongst other tweets and deserves a second chance!

I’m looking to maybe do a bit more in 2015. I might add a top 5 tweets of the month or something like. I haven’t really used the stats to date, but I might see what they can show about my blog and followers in 2015!

Thank you again for your kind support this year and I very much hope to see you all (and friends and family!) in 2015!

Happy new year to you all!

Ben

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 740 times in 2014. If it were a cable car, it would take about 12 trips to carry that many people.

#TTT #14TW and #TOTW – What do they all mean?

Since creating my blog, I haven’t really had the opportunity to start blogging :-/ I have, however, been tweeting profusely – as you may have noticed! I have introduced a few regular “slots” in my tweeting schedule and I thought it might be a good idea to give a short explanation here of what they all are:

  • #TTT or ‘TED Talk Tuesday’

This was the first of the slots I created in order to be able to share with you a TED Talk (relating to the fields of medicine, healthcare, science and such like) each and every Tuesday.

  • #14TW or ‘One For The Weekend’

The second of the regular slots is an opportunity for me to share with you something totally unrelated to the subject matters of my regular tweets. It could be either an article, video, audio, or anything that is of interest to me, and hopefully to you too! It’s meant for a bit of fun and will give you an idea of the things that interest me outside of my profession. Most likely to be posted on a Friday or a Saturday.

  • #TOTW or ‘Tweet Of The Week’

The latest (and probably the last) of my regular weekly tweets is the chance for me to share again with you the tweet which for me was the highlight of my week, for one reason or another. This will be posted on a Sunday.
